Stage by stage

Introduction

The Gravel Tour of the Northern Lakes is a 230 km (145 miles) bicycle trip that develops between Lombardy and Veneto along a hilly route that allows you to visit Bergamo, Brescia and Verona as well as the most representative centers of the Iseo and Garda Lakes, rich in history and charm.

1st stage: Bergamo – Lovere

(54 km 550 m D+)(34 miles 1804 feet elevation gain)

Our guided bike tour of the Lakes begins in Bergamo, city of the Thousand. After a visit within the walls of the Upper Town, take the cycle path of the Val Seriana, a pleasant route away from traffic that alternates between asphalted and unpaved sections following the course of the river Serio in countercurrent. From Clusone, the gateway to the Bergamo Prealps, you descend towards the nearby Lake Iseo, on whose banks Lovere rises, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

2nd stage: Lovere – Brescia

(62 km 300 m D+)(39 miles 984 feet elevation gain)

The entire crossing of the Brescian side of Lake Iseo takes place from Lovere, along the suggestive Vello - Toline cycle/pedestrian path. From Iseo the route winds its way into the Natural Reserve of Torbiere del Sebino, a wetland of international importance and habitat of various aquatic-marsh species. After passing the beautiful castle of Passirano, continue east along the cycle path to Brescia, the so called Leonessa d’Italia.

3rd stage: Brescia – Desenzano del Garda

(62 km 400 m D+)(39 miles 1312 feet elevation gain)

Following the cycle path, you enter the pre-alpine environment again until you reach the entrance to Val Sabbia. Nearby is Salò, a pretty town located on the Lombard banks of the Benaco, the second name of Lake Garda. It is with great satisfaction that you cycle inside the Valtenesi, a hilly area on which seven municipalities that overlook Lake Garda are located and where wine and oil are produced. You soon reach Desenzano del Garda.

4th stage: Desenzano del Garda – Verona

(53 km 350 m D+)(33 miles 1148 feet elevation gain)

Continuing on Lake Garda by bicycle and leaving the prestigious villages of Sirmione and Peschiera on our left, we immerse ourselves in the area of the Garda Moraine Hills, where the mild climate and fertile soils are suitable for the cultivation of vines, olive trees and apples. Reached Ponti sul Mincio, the flat path is intercepted that allows you to reach Verona by bicycle.
