Stage by stage

Introduction

Franciacorta and Lake Iseo Gravel Bicycle Tour is a 115 km (71 miles) bike tour that develops between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia to discover the Sebino, a lake basin nestled in the mountains close to the Alpine giants. Its ring configuration allows you to have a complete view of the lake, to admire its views and to appreciate the gravel routes within the Franciacorta wine area.

1st stage: Rovato - Riva di Solto

(50 km 700m D+: paved 75%; gravel/cycle path 25%)(31 miles 2296 feet elevation gain)

From Rovato you cycle along the foothills path, an almost flat route composed of easy sections of path, country roads and secondary asphalted roads that develop around the hilly relief of Monte Orfano. Continuing through pleasant ups and downs, you pass through fine historic villages until you reach Sarnico, the gateway to Lake Iseo. With unique views of Monte Isola, the highest lake island in Europe, you can walk along the Bergamo side of the lake to the pretty town of Riva di Solto.

2a tappa: Riva di Solto - Rovato

(65 km 700m D+: paved 60%; gravel/cycle path 40%)(40 miles 2296 feet elevation gain)

After admiring the ramparts of Bögn di Zorzino and the cliffs overlooking the lake along the fantastic Vello - Toline cycle/pedestrian path, you climb up the Via Valeriana, a timeless historical itinerary among olive groves and silent medieval villages. After passing the evocative setting of the Sebino peat bogs, a varied and fun journey is undertaken within the morainic amphitheater of Franciacorta, an area of limited extension in which the climate is favorable to quality viticulture.

Type of terrain

The cycling weekend develops on the hills of Franciacorta and close to the Lombard Prealps, along secondary roads, dirt roads and never technical paths, with slopes and gradients that require medium training. The lakeside villages are connected by a panoramic road which can be busy at times and therefore, for a few kilometers, it is essential to have safety lights to be clearly visible. In Franciacorta the dirt roads can be pedaled and the slopes rarely become difficult.
